Ashley Lloyd Thompson has been seen for her world-ranked accomplishments in women's surfing and surfboard shaping, showing grace of board and spirit in her unique soulful way . Today, one focus of her talents is towards the music she creates, perking ears that cross her path. Ashley's roots from the beach started her love of performing live with various blues and surf bands. She began song writing and playing solo performances with her own tunes. While Ashley has a style of her own, her voice has the sultry soulfulness and intriguing creativity of Billie Holiday, Ani Di Franco, and Sarah Vaughan. Her music transcends a timeless quality of soulful, oceanic, folk, back porch groove, that simply brings good feeling to those listening. You can recognize the soul of her being through her music, which brings a spontaneous unfiltered, smile to one's face. Based out of Santa Cruz, her band, The Shapes, includes her husband and songwriting partner, Alex Thompson, guitar and vocals; Lisa Edberg, bass; Ron Work, guitar. Much like the band who is often trading instruments, the music takes many shapes. The Shapes EP is the first of Ashley and Alex’s collaborative recording projects, joining Ashley’s two prior Albums, True to Myself, recorded in 2004, and The Serenata Road Recordings, released in 2008; these 3 Albums give an evolving range of Lloyd Thompson’s sound.
